What to wear for a paintball game?
The most important thing is to be dressed comfortably, in order to be at your ease. Keep in mind that your outfit may get tainted or torn, therefore it is better to choose casual clothes. If, additionally, their color will be dark (black, brown or green), you need nothing more to have great fun! Any kind of military fatigues is also a good idea as it lets you hide in the forest and have the advantage of camouflage. You can purchase such clothes easily in military stores. As it goes for footwear, first it should be comfortable, so it is better to pick sport shoes instead of heavy boots.
Do paintball stains wash off easily?
The answer is yes. All you need to remove the stains is just wash out your clothes. It rinses out of clothing and off skin with mild soap and water. During a break between games you can wash off the paint using only the water and some kind of cloth. Telling the truth, paintball spots are easier to clean than grass or dirt stains.
How much time does the game take?
Most recently the event lasts all day long, however, a single play can take from 10 minutes time to an hour. The duration of the play depends on the number of players, the scenario or the type of battlefield (urban games usually are much shorter than the forest ones).
How many paintballs can I shoot?
It wholly depends on your attitude and mettle. There are players that shoot 100 during a day, for some even 500 is not enough.
How much does it cost?
It depends if you have your own gear or if you have to rent one. Paintballs cost some $20-$30 for 2000 rounds, while other stuff is much more expensive. It is a good idea to rent the equipment if you are a beginner, in order to learn how it works and see the differences between various types. Therefore, when you already know that the game truly suits you, you will choose the best equipment yourself. The price of the entire kit depends mainly on the kind of maker, mask or the gas cylinder you prefer, but you can purchase one yet starting from $150. If you decide to rent the equipment, it will cost you ca. $20-$30 a day. Sometimes there is possibility to rent the kit for free, but please keep in mind that there may be a catch. Most recently it is connected with the obligation to buy paintballs from the game organizers, which are much more expensive than the ones you could purchase in an ordinary store.
After how many shots do I “die”?
Remember that it is not a computer game. You do not die if you get shot, you just leave the game, that’s it. It does not matter if you got the bullet in your head, leg, mask or other part of your body. When you have been shot once, you leave the battlefield and wait in a safety place for anther game to start, no matter in which part of your body and how many times you got shot.
Is being hit painful?
The answer, unfortunately, is yes. However, I can assure you that the pain is not discouraging enough to keep you away from playing again.
Is it dangerous?
Practicing every sport bears some kind of risk, however, if you obey safety rules, it can be wholly eliminated. Paintball is not much of a danger than playing football or basketball, and definitely safer than hokey, boxing or bungee jumping. Statistically, it is even safer than golf. You jus have to follow the rules. The things that can harm you the most are daredevilry and thoughtlessness.
What rules should be followed?
The number one principle is not to take off your mask on the battlefield (not only during the game, but also after being hit). Never shoot from short distances, point in the head of your opponent and shoot to someone who light-headedly took off his mask. The player that gets shot raises his hands holding a marker, to show others that he no longer takes part in he game and then leaves the battlefield. On his way to the safety place (that is being set before the game), he talks to no one and does not inform his colleagues about his opponents’ moves. The player with arms raised can not be shoot at. Also during the game, if someone raises his market, it means that he is somehow protected, that some problem has occurred. If you get short of paintballs or gas and you want to leave the battlefield, just raise your weapon.
What to do if my mask steams up?
It sometimes happens that masks get steamed up and you can hardly see anything. However, it does not release you from precautions. It may happen that someone, who has the same problem with the mask, sees you and is incapable of knowing if you wear a mask or not, and then what? He shoots you in the eye, and then you both have a major problem. Therefore, the rules must be followed no matter what. So when your mask steams up, do not risk your safety, just raise your gun and leave the battlefield, when you reach the safety place you will clean your mask and be able to return to the game.
Do I have to shoot everyone to win?
It depends on a scenario. Most recently you eliminate your opponents in order to fulfill a specific objective (capture the flag, conquer fortification), however, while playing forest ops it is your canniness that matters more than the number of paintballs shot. Isn’t it more satisfying to creep up to your opponents’ hideaway and make them surrender rather than to shoot millions of paintballs in all directions.
Stupid questions
Are paintballs eatable?
You can eat a paintball if you really wish to, however, it has a bad taste. The filling inside is non-toxic, non-caustic, water-soluble and bio-degradable, I wouldn’t recommend though to put it on the menu.
Can women also play?
Why not? Paintball is a sport free of all discriminations. It is a sport in which men and women compete equally, and age is not dominated by youth. Size and strength are not as important as intelligence and determination. The only criterion is the age of players (you need to be at least 18 years old and 15, if your parents approved) and capability to obey safety rules.
It is a brutal sport, how can you shoot your friends?
You can and you should do it faster than they do :) Paintball is a sport that tightens relations and friendships. After a eventful game there are always thousands of fascinating stories to talk about.
